If a system is far enough gone that a repair doesn't make sense, we'll say so and give you both numbers so you can decide. Do you charge to come out and diagnose a problem?
Yes. There's a flat diagnostic fee for a service call, and we tell you what it is when you book so there's no surprise at the door. Once we know what's wrong you get the repair price before we start, and you can say no.
My unit is old. Should I repair it or replace it?
It depends on what failed, how old the system is, and what refrigerant it uses. A compressor or coil failure on a system that's near the end of its life is usually money spent twice, while a capacitor or contactor is a cheap fix worth doing. We'll price the repair and the replacement and let you look at both numbers.
It's 100 degrees and my AC quit. How soon can you get here?
Call us. We run a same-day list during heat waves and we'll tell you honestly where you land on it rather than promising a window we can't hit. In the meantime, shut the system off at the thermostat so the compressor isn't running against a frozen coil.
How often does a system need maintenance, and is it actually worth it?
Once a year for a furnace or an AC, twice for a heat pump since it runs year round. The real value is catching a weak capacitor or a clogged drain line before it fails on the hottest or coldest day. You can change your own filters between visits, and you should, every one to three months depending on the filter.
How do you decide what size system I need?
With a load calculation based on your square footage, insulation, windows, and duct layout. Matching the tonnage of the old unit is how houses end up with equipment that short-cycles and never dehumidifies. If the ductwork can't carry the airflow the new system needs, we'll tell you that before you buy it, not after.
